Where to play
Where to Play: Licensed Casinos Read by Their Regulators
Choose a casino by what its licence says before you choose it by what it offers. The operators below state named regulators, and you can check each against the regulator's own register. The list is the operators this Journal covers, ordered by fit for readers who read the institution first, not by commission.
The rooms this Journal covers
Licences first, then the offer

Unibet
UKGC, Gibraltar
Unibet is run by Kindred Group and holds UKGC and Gibraltar licences, which gives a clear regulator to check in each. It combines sports, casino and poker in one account, and its free spin terms can be restrictive.
Standing offerUp to £40 in bonuses + 300 free spins on casino

William Hill
UKGC, Gibraltar
William Hill has operated since 1934 under UKGC and Gibraltar licences, making it a good case study in a long regulatory record. It is UK-centric, and its sportsbook welcome offer has a seven-day expiry.

Mr Green
Malta MGA, UKGC, Danish Gambling Authority, Swedish Gambling Authority
Mr Green lists four regulators, the MGA, UKGC and the Danish and Swedish authorities, and puts weight on player protection. Withdrawals are listed as slower than its peers.
Standing offer100% Match up to €100 + 200 Free Spins

LeoVegas
Malta MGA, UKGC, Swedish Gambling Authority
LeoVegas holds Malta, UK and Swedish licences and is a good example of an operator regulated in several jurisdictions at once. Its account verification requirements are strict, which is worth knowing before a first withdrawal.
Standing offerUp to €1,000 + 2,600 Free Spins

Casumo
Malta MGA, UKGC
Casumo is licensed by the MGA and the UKGC and serves the UK, much of the EU, Canada and Australia. Its welcome bonus carries a 30x wagering requirement on a seven-day deadline, and verification can be slow.
Standing offer100% Match up to £100 + 50 Free Spins

Betsson
Malta MGA
Betsson holds an MGA licence and is a publicly traded company, which adds a layer of public reporting. Account verification can delay payouts, which is listed as a weak point.
Standing offer100% Match up to €100 + 50 Free Spins + €10 Free Bet

Hyperbet
Anjouan Offshore Financial Authority (named in the Terms of Service; no licence number shown on the site)
Hyperbet is useful as a contrast case for reading licences. Hyperbet is operated by Hyperbet Ltd, and this blog is published in association with Hyperbet Ltd. It names an Anjouan authority in its terms but shows no licence number or operating company on the site, which is the gap this Journal tells readers to look for.
18+. Some links pay us a commission. Offers and terms come from the operators and can change.
What does a licence actually tell me?
It tells you which body can inspect the operator and take action against it. It does not tell you the casino is generous or that you will be paid out quickly. The strongest signals are a named regulator, a licence number you can find on the register and a record of enforcement you can read. A licence from a major European or UK regulator carries different oversight than an offshore framework such as Curacao or Anjouan.
How do I check a licence?
Find the regulator and number in the site footer, then search the regulator's own public register. Check that the operating company on the register matches the one in the terms. If the site names a regulator but no number, or no company, treat that as a gap and note it.
Where is the casino available?
Availability is a separate question from licensing. Most operators here serve the UK and parts of Europe and Canada, and the Journal's own focus on US state and tribal regulation does not make them available in a US state. Read the restricted list in the terms, and treat a site that does not list your country as unavailable.
What should I find before I deposit?
Self-exclusion tools, deposit limits and a complaint route. A regulated operator should show how to self-exclude, how to set limits and which body handles an unresolved complaint. Read the terms for verification rules, since account checks can delay payouts.
What about responsible gambling?
Gambling is for adults aged 18 and over, and it can lose you money. Read our responsible gambling page, set limits first and stop when it stops being fun. Our affiliate disclosure explains how the Journal is funded.
